What is Warriors of the Last Days about?

Four hooded survivors walk on a ruined highway towards a devastated Montreal, featuring the Olympic Stadium, under a fiery post-apocalyptic sky.

Warriors of the Last Days is a dystopian novel series set in a post-nuclear Canada, a country reshaped by collapse, engineered catastrophe, and systemic control.

Institutions endure.
Optimization replaces democracy.
Memory becomes resistance.

Across unstable micro climates, flooded corridors, abandoned quarries, wind-torn zones, and uncontrolled firestorms, ordinary people are forced to decide whether survival is enough… or whether refusal is still possible.

Is this a standalone novel or a series?

Four cloaked figures walk through post-nuclear Montreal under elemental symbols. Olympic Stadium stands amid orange-grey sky and debris.

It is a multi-book saga set in various Canadian cities. The first portion, the Montreal arc unfolds across four novels:
The Refusal (Water)
The Exodus (Earth)
The Drift (Wind)
The Spark (Fire)

Each book deepens the conflict while expanding the emotional and political stakes of the city.

Do I need to read the short stories?

This is not an unreasonable question. Here is the answer:
No. Absolutely not.

The novels stand independently on their own.

Short stories function as world expansions without being required for the main arc or for the general series comprehension. If you enjoy the world, they are a way to stay immersed in it for longer, to explore strange and weird subject we will never touch with the novels, to experience different styles (homoristic, mystical, grounded, etc.)

They are just varied stories set across Canada. There are a few dyptic, tryptics and at least one tetraptych (Alberta) at the moment.

What genre is the series?

Dystopian Montreal cityscape under storm, showing a stadium, river, lightning, fires, and 'RESTRICTED' documents in foreground.

Post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction grounded in environmental collapse and institutional power. This is not space opera or high fantasy. It is systemic. Political. Intimate.

You can get more information about the series and how it fits in the greater scheme of things in the publishing section of the website.

Where does the story take place?

Four hooded survivors walk on a ruined highway towards a devastated Montreal, featuring the Olympic Stadium, under a fiery post-apocalyptic sky.

The first story arc takes place in Montreal, Quebec, reimagined under post-collapse conditions shaped by environmental instability and systemic control.

Upcoming novels are set on the French islands of St-Pierre & Miquelon, near Newfoundland, Ontario, Yukon and Sakskatchewan.

What is the reading order for Warriors of the Last Days?

Cookies Policy: A hooded survivor with a lantern and a cybernetic dog named DOG1 search through a desolate, ruined city at sunset. A sign reads 'SEARCH'.

The recommended reading order is: The Refusal, The Exodus, The Drift, and The Spark. If you want to know what it the series order with the short stories, consult our Reading Order Page.

How do I access bonus materials?

Four grimy concrete posters display clearance levels I-IV with symbols for water, earth, wind, and fire tiers.

Fair question. Admittedly, this is not the most obvious. Most of our extra content is available for free via the WORLD main menu, which explores Tropes, Characters, Creatures, Weather, and several other elements of the lore and the world itself.

Some bonus materials are available through the Archive clearance system. Subscribers receive elemental tier access that unlocks classified short fiction, dossiers, and additional world-building content according to the moment they joined.
Newsletter subscribers also get access to bonus and deleted chapters.

Is there a Glossary of the terms specific to the novels?

Open survival glossary on a rusted surface, with definitions for 'Sump' and 'Chitin Traps', alongside a map, compass, knife, and projectiles.

Great question. This has been asked a lot and yes, we are in the process of creating a Glossary of all the terms and neologisms created for the series. It is accessible via the WORLD portion of the main menu or directly: Glossary. Please be patient, as it is quite the undertaking.

Will there be a novel for each provinces and territory?

Vintage map of Canada displaying a forested mountain landscape, surrounded by old books and compasses, symbolizing Canadian stories and exploration.

Again, great question. If all goes to plan, we want to release 4 novels per year. So far, we covered Quebec (mainly Montreal, more regions and cities coming soon through short stories). The Quebec novels will be released throughout 2026, with a bundle coming out in 2027.

Novels wise, 2027 will see novels for Ontario (Death Row), Yukon (Cold Storage), Saskatchewan (The Front) and the French islands of St-Pierre & Miquelon near Newfoundland (The Last Islands). While not technically part of Canada, the story started in St-Pierre will spread throughout the country. There will be only a single novel set in St-Pierre, however.

In 2027, expect the first volume of Tales of the Last Days, a compilation of the short stories set in the various provinces and territories released so far.

So at a rate of four novels per years, it will take a few years to cover the entire country but that is the plan. In the meantime, we definitely talk about your province or territory in one of our short stories to tide you over until we talk about you in a novel!

What about Audio Books?

Fair question. They are coming. This format is more complicated to produce (obviously) and significantly more costly. They will be released later during the year. We might release some of the short stories as audio books. The single narrator versions will come out way before the more complex, multicast versions.

A dystopian novel series set in post-nuclear Canada

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stéphane Roy is a lifelong reader and writer with a deep love for science fiction, apocalyptic worlds, and tightly constructed mysteries. This is his first novel. He lives in the Yukon with his dog and his aquarium, where long winters, silence, and wide, sometimes glowing, skies leave plenty of room for imagining the end of the world, and what might come after it. He is also waiting, with cautious optimism, for the aliens to finally reveal themselves and straighten us all out.
