A dystopian novel series set in post-nuclear Canada

Kobo: The Refusal now available

Kobo: It’s Happening! The Refusal is Now Available for Pre-Order

Some announcements feel bigger than others. This is one of them.

The Refusal — Book I of the Warriors of the Last Days tetralogy by Stéphane Roy — is now live on Kobo and available for pre-order ahead of its official launch on May 2, 2026. It is the first ebook edition of a series that has been a long time coming. Longer than most readers will know.

A Milestone Worth Marking

We do not use the word milestone lightly. Getting a book to market, a real book, properly formatted, properly priced, live on a major retail platform, is not a small thing. It is the result of hundreds of decisions, countless hours, and more than a few sleepless nights wrestling with file formats, metadata, cover files, and distribution systems that are far less straightforward than their signup pages suggest.

The Refusal going live on Kobo is the first concrete proof that this series exists in the world, not just on a hard drive. That matters.

A Long Road

The Warriors of the Last Days did not begin as a novel. It began as a screenplay, written and filmed by Stéphane Roy during his university years, roughly thirty years ago. The story of a post-nuclear Montreal, divided between a theocratic order and a cold algorithmic system, had been living inside his imagination, and inside a short film, for decades before it became the tetralogy it is today.

The prologue scene, known as The Last Protocol, survived every iteration unchanged. That should tell you something about how deeply this world was always defined, always waiting.

The road from that original screenplay to a finished, published novel is not a short one. It ran through years of writing, rewriting, editorial upheaval, a significant manuscript reduction, and a complete rebuild of the publishing infrastructure needed to bring it to readers without compromising how it should be done. No shortcuts. No cutting corners on cover design, formatting, or distribution strategy. Every step was deliberate.

That road ends, and a new one begins, on May 2.

Prefer to order directly? You can purchase the ePub edition through our own site at warriorsofthelastdays.com — where a PDF digital edition will also be available starting tomorrow.

For readers who prefer print, physical copies will be available through the website within approximately one week.

And for those who prefer to listen: audiobook editions are in the works for this fall.

Other major retail platforms, Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Google Play Books, are coming.

The distribution process involves a level of identity verification and registration complexity that the platforms do not advertise upfront. We are working through it. Each new retailer will be announced as it goes live.

The series page on Kobo — Warriors of the Last Days — currently shows Book I. Books II through III will be added before the weekend.

This has been a long time in the making. We are glad it is finally real.

The next step will be to get ready for the print versions, both standard trade paperbacks and the hardcover versions.

Keep an eye out on this blog.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stéphane Roy is a lifelong reader and writer with a deep love for science fiction, apocalyptic worlds, and tightly constructed mysteries. This is his first novel. He lives in the Yukon with his dog and his aquarium, where long winters, silence, and wide, sometimes glowing, skies leave plenty of room for imagining the end of the world, and what might come after it. He is also waiting, with cautious optimism, for the aliens to finally reveal themselves and straighten us all out.
