URANIUM CITY

Uranium City, a remote northern Saskatchewan settlement on Lake Athabasca, grew rapidly as a planned community built around the 1950s Cold War uranium boom. After the mines closed in the 1980s, the town persisted, remembered as a mining hub and environmental remediation site, and appears in the fiction series Warriors of the Last Days.

CHIGNECTO SEA CREATURES

OF MARSH AND MEN: CHIGNECTO SEA CREATURES ASHEN WILLOW Not a creature, but a deadly hybrid. These mutated trees survive entirely submerged with only their weeping, grey branches breaking the surface. Their roots feed on the high radiation of the mud, and their hanging vines secrete a sticky, paralytic sap. If a boat gets tangled in them, the vines slowly tighten as the current pulls against the...

IRON SHEPHERDS CREATURE

IRON SHEPHERDS CREATURE The Iron Shepherds story does not contain a lot of creatures but the one it does have is properly terrifying. SIRENS OF THE SILT They were geese before the Light, Canada geese, the kind that used to fill the Manitoba sky every autumn in numbers a man could set his calendar by. They didn’t survive the fallout so much as answer it. What came back doesn’t migrate anymore. It...

WHERE THE WORLD ENDS

The road really ends at Meat Cove - the northernmost community in Nova Scotia, and the real setting of a short story arriving this Halloween. Some places seem to wait for a horror story.

THE EXODUS CREATURES

There are not a lot of creatures in Exodus, the second novel, but when they do show up and their presence is definitely felt strongly and impact the story significantly. From the creatures already presented in Book I (Crawfish, Glowers, Roachers) to one of the strangest beings in the entire tetralogy, the Exodus creatures might be few but they are terrifying nonetheless. We do a lot of research...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stéphane Roy is a lifelong reader and writer with a deep love for science fiction, apocalyptic worlds, and tightly constructed mysteries. This is his first novel. He lives in the Yukon with his dog and his aquarium, where long winters, silence, and wide, sometimes glowing, skies leave plenty of room for imagining the end of the world, and what might come after it. He is also waiting, with cautious optimism, for the aliens to finally reveal themselves and straighten us all out.
