The Exodus Is Here: Warriors of the Last Days, Book II
The wait is over. The Exodus is here, the second volume in Stéphane Roy’s post-apocalyptic series Warriors of the Last Days, is now available worldwide in epub, trade paperback, and hardcover.
THE EXODUS: In a flooded portion of post-apocalyptic Montreal, survivors navigate shifting, predatory infrastructure and psychic “Glowers” toward a rumored safe refuge, making brutal choices to keep the group alive. As the journey continues, the protagonist learns that every “safe” place is sustained by ongoing, morally difficult maintenance that may be worse than death itself.
Where Book I: THE REFUSAL Left Off

If you read Book I: The Refusal, you know the Sump. You know the crawfish smoke, the Décarie mud underfoot, the shifting sliding ground and the hope of something new emerging from a disaster. And you met, briefly, our Book II hero, Andy.
If you read the prequel short story Renée from the Sump, you met Andy again and Renée, two people who survived the collapse of their world one bad decision at a time, always a half-step ahead of what the land kept throwing at them.
By the end of Book I, that world had already claimed most of the people they started with. What they carry into Book II is lighter than what they left with, and heavier in every way that matters.
They did not escape. They were taken.
What The Exodus Is About
Something is wrong in the Sump. The tremors are real. The lights in the tunnels are real. Whatever is moving through the Décarie lowlands does not care that people built their lives there.
When the ground stops being safe, you move. That is what The Exodus is about: a group of survivors leaving Montreal’s flooded lowlands and making their way across a broken city toward Francon, a place they have heard might be better. A quarry with a source of food, a welcoming village protected from the madness of the new world by the cliffs of the ancient quarry.
The journey is the novel. And the journey does not go smoothly.
Roy puts Andy and Renée on a road that crosses terrain that has been changing since the collapse, not just physically, but in the way human beings have rearranged themselves around what is left. The world outside the Sump has developed its own logic, its own dangers, its own rules. Some of those rules are written down. Some of them you learn the hard way.
The group that sets out is not the group that arrives. That much is fair to say.
There are no spoilers here. There are none that would be fair to give.

I’m honestly impressed by how hard this story commits to its speculative logic and still keeps the human stakes front and center. The whole journey feels like a brutal, coherent pressure-cooker.
What Makes This Series Different
Stéphane Roy does not write survival fiction the way most authors approach it. The catastrophe in Warriors of the Last Days is not explained away with a clean origin story. The world broke, and the world kept going, and the people still in it adapted. Some of what they adapted to is worse than what broke them.
The prose stays close to the ground. You feel this world through what the characters feel: the grit of crawfish shell powder, the wrong kind of silence before something bad moves through the earth, the weight of a pack when you have carried it for weeks. Roy earns your trust with specificity, then uses it.
The series is also, quietly, a book about two people choosing each other across conditions that make choosing anything at all an act of stubbornness. That thread does not announce itself. It runs underneath everything else.

Stéphane Roy is a lifelong reader and writer with a deep love for science fiction, apocalyptic worlds, and tightly constructed mysteries. This is his first novel. He lives in the Yukon with his dog and his aquarium, where long winters, silence, and wide, sometimes glowing, skies leave plenty of room for imagining the end of the world, and what might come after it. He is also waiting, with cautious optimism, for the aliens to finally reveal themselves and straighten us all out.
